This Wednesday morning, the day after the President of the Republic's speech, African Safari still did not know when it was going to be able to reopen its closed doors since the reconfinement, almost a month ago.

Zoological parks, like that of Plaisance-du-Touch near Toulouse, were not mentioned by name by Emmanuel Macron and remain in the dark.

Anyway, when visitors can return, they will no longer see Onduri.

The death of one of the park's four giraffes was announced earlier this week, but dates back to last Thursday.

When she was to be 20 years old in January and she was going to give birth within a few weeks, this female who arrived from Dortmund Zoo in 2014, to join her sisters Rahima and Quibala, was found lifeless.

A traumatic discovery for the park teams, especially since there was no warning sign of such an outcome.

“The autopsy did not give specific causes of death,” says African Safari.

Further analyzes are underway.

In captivity, the lifespan of this animal can exceed 25 years.

This loss is all the more cruel as the Angolan giraffe, also present in Zambia, Namibia and Botswana, is a rather rare subspecies.

"We are the only French park to have one", specifies African Safari, which during its period of closure, offers Instagram lives.

The possible arrival of a new giraffe, managed - as for all zoo animals - at European level, is a process all the longer for this reason.
