Saudi Supreme Court abolishes the punishment of discretionary flogging

 Today, Tuesday, the Saudi newspaper "Okaz" confirmed the issuance of higher directives to pardon all those against whom a discretionary flogging ruling was issued, unless the judgment was applied to them from the emirates of the regions, due to the judgments issued prior to the issuance of the principle approved by the Supreme Court to cancel the punishment of discretionary flogging.

The sources of the Saudi newspaper indicated that the judicial principle issued by the decision of the General Authority of the Supreme Court, in which it was decided by the majority that the courts should not impose the penalty of flogging in the discretionary punishments, and be satisfied with the discretionary punishments with imprisonment or a fine or both, or alternative penalties according to the regulations issued by the guardian Or decisions in this regard, and a generous directive was issued to take the necessary action.

The sources pointed out that the recent move ended what has been problematic for the regions' emirates regarding the implementation of peremptory acquired judgments, for the Supreme Directives require approval of what the Council of Political and Security Affairs saw as the occasion to pardon all those sentenced to punishments for flogging as stipulated in the discretionary sentences acquired for the peremptory character, before issuing The aforementioned judicial principle, provided that the pardon is in the matter of flogging in those rulings that have not been executed.
