All mainline trains should run for the school holidays if the evolution of the health situation allows the lifting of the confinement as planned on December 15, SNCF said Tuesday evening after the announcements of Emmanuel Macron.

"As SNCF Voyageurs has been preparing for it for several weeks, all TGV and Intercity trains planned for the Christmas holidays will be able to operate from mid-December if sanitary conditions allow," said a spokesperson.

Refundable and exchangeable tickets free of charge until January 4

"The objective is to meet all the mobility needs of the French in complete health security", he added, recalling that the tickets are anyway refundable and exchangeable free of charge until January 4.

The SNCF - which currently only circulates 30% of its TGVs - observed an explosion in reservations in the minutes following the president's speech, revealed on Twitter Alain Krakovitch, the general manager of SNCF travel.

Already 400% increase in sales compared to the last few days.

There are over 4.5 million tickets on sale (1/3 of which are low prices), so there will be room for everyone.

Emmanuel Macron announced Tuesday evening that the confinement would be lifted on December 15, and replaced by a national curfew from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. - except the evenings of December 24 and 31 - if the health situation continues to improve, that is to say if the number of coronavirus contaminations drops below 5,000 per day, with around 2,500 to 3,000 people in intensive care.
