Six out of ten French people are up for getting vaccinated, according to an exclusive BVA poll for Europe 1. But only 20% of French people agree to get vaccinated now.

INTERVIEW

According to an exclusive BVA survey for Europe 1, unveiled Monday morning, 60% of French people agree to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

But only 20% would be ready to do so now.

But why are so many of them wanting to wait a bit?

The director of the polling institute BVA, Adélaïde Zulfikarpasic, guest of the morning of Europe 1, explains the results of this poll.

Rapid vaccine development

Announcements about vaccine development are starting to pile up.

Now comes the question of vaccination of the population.

And to this question, the French would therefore rather be ready to be injected with a vaccine.

There is especially "a form of wait-and-see" in the face of the vaccine against the Covid-19, details Adelaide Zulfikarpasic.

For a first reason, again according to the director of the BVA polling institute: that of the rapid design of the vaccine.

"There are fears related to the conditions of the design of the vaccine, and in particular the fact that the vaccine was established in a record time. They are seven in ten to tell us, that it was conceived too quickly (... ) We have arguments that relate mainly to this vaccine there, with mainly a fear of side effects and the corollary of this concern linked to too rapid conception delays that we are also being told, "she explains.

But the director of the survey says that when those who do not consider getting vaccinated at all are questioned, it is more the financial arguments that come into play.

"These are arguments that are very often found in those called anti-vaccines, with particular concerns related to the financial issues surrounding this vaccine. The financial issue that does not inspire confidence. Doubts also on the efficacy of the vaccine ", Adelaide Zulfikarpasic analysis.

A generational split

The division on vaccination against the coronavirus is also done on a generational basis.

"The youngest are those who are the least inclined to want to be vaccinated. They are in the majority and even a very clear majority, since 56% of them do not intend to be vaccinated at all. on the other hand, we have a much stronger intention. Obviously, we are targeting categories that are potentially more at risk, those 65 and over, "explains Adélaïde Zulfikarpasic.

But it is still necessary to qualify this division.

According to the director of the BVA polling institute, "the proportion of seniors who intend to be vaccinated as soon as possible is only 35%. So barely a third. It shows that even among subjects potentially at risk, there is a certain mistrust ".
