Nearly 400 Covid-19 patients have died in the past twenty-four hours, but the number of patients in intensive care continued to decline slightly for the fourth day in a row, according to official statistics released on Friday.

Data from the French public health agency (SpF) show 386 deaths recorded in the last twenty-four hours in hospitals, bringing the total death toll from the coronavirus to 48,265 since the start of the epidemic in France.

Thursday 436 people were killed in hospital.

Slight increase in contamination

The noose continues to slowly loosen on the hospital.

The intensive care units were thus still occupied by 4,566 Covid-19 patients on Friday, including 264 new admissions in twenty-four hours.

The day before, these services had 4,637 patients with Covid-19, including 311 new admissions.

In total, 31,875 people carrying the virus were hospitalized on Friday (regardless of the severity of their condition), against 32,314 the day before.

On the other hand, the number of new confirmed cases increased slightly to 22,882, against 21,150 cases of contamination the day before.

"Even if the indicators remain at high levels, their observation suggests that the epidemic peak of the second wave has been crossed", underlined Public Health France this Friday in a press release accompanying its weekly epidemiological update.
