[Dancing the Yangtze River Economic Belt · Seeing high-quality development] "Migratory Bird Doctor" by Poyang Lake

【Explanation】Walking into Poyang Lake, the blue sky and the clear lake merge into one, making it extremely peaceful.

As the main habitat for overwintering migratory birds, 600,000 to 700,000 migratory birds migrate here every year.

On the banks of Poyang Lake, there is a "migratory bird doctor" Shu Guolei who has guarded migratory birds for more than ten years.

When the reporter saw him, as usual, he watched migratory bird rescue in the migratory bird rescue pond.

Every day we have to come and take a look to see how the treatment and progress of these injured migratory birds are.

Especially these two oriental white storks, we are always worried.

[Commentary] The two oriental white storks that made Shu Guolei feel uneasy were named "Kaka" and "Dong Dong".

Their names are related to their previous experience of being rescued.

Because there was an Oriental white stork that was eating fish in the lake, it got stuck in the neck while eating catfish, and then got injured. Our patrolmen rescued it after seeing it and took out the stuck fishbone. .

Another one was in 19 years (2019) in the snowy weather. After resting for a whole night, it had a icy tuft on its feet but it could not fly, so we found it during the patrol and then took it. I brought it back, so I named it "Frozen".

[Explanation] On weekdays, Shu Guolei and the ambulance team will regularly patrol migratory birds.

When the injured migratory birds are found, they will be taken back to the rescue pond as soon as possible and treated by the bird medical research team.

Every year, the Wucheng Conservation Management Station rescues about 60 to 70 migratory birds.

Xiang Kaka was first discovered by a local photographer last year (2019).

When we found it (Kaka), the body was already very weak, and we couldn't stand up, and couldn't spread its wings.

After coming to our rescue pond, we will organize a special doctor to conduct a physical examination on it, and then a special breeder will feed it and observe it.

After feeding it for about half a month, we found that its physical strength slowly recovered, and now it seems that it is recovering better.

[Explanation] The winter of Poyang Lake migratory birds in 2020 has just begun, and Shu Guolei and his team have rescued 5 migratory birds.

In the future, they will be released in time according to the recovery of migratory birds.

The first one is to see if it can eat normally. If it can eat normally, there is generally no major problem.

The second is to change it from a small place to a large place to see if it can fly by itself. If it can fly by itself, then there is no big problem.

If these two conditions are met, we will generally give it the fastest speed to release.

[Explanation] Under the treatment of Shu Guolei and his team, the migratory birds gradually recovered and returned to nature.

Whenever he saw migratory birds flying high after healed, Shu Guolei felt that his job was given more meaning.

Now you can see that it can stand up, and occasionally fly twice. It is very gratifying, indeed very gratifying, it is equivalent to slowly changing like a child.

We have been involved in protection since the 1980s (last century), and it has actually achieved initial results.

After I entered the reserve in 11 years (2011), we gradually got to know nature, what happened to waterbirds, and what happened to the ecosystem.

We have kept the last piece of living home for migratory birds, and we all feel very fulfilled.
