Director Marcos Siga has joined the crew of the miniseries "Dexter".

He is known for projects such as The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Veronica Mars, and Batwoman.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shiga will direct six episodes.

He will also take the place of the executive producer of the project.

Marcos Siga was involved in the production of the original series and directed nine episodes that aired from 2007 to 2008 as part of the second, third and fourth seasons.

Shiga worked on two episodes with screenwriter and showrunner Clyde Phillips, who left the project in 2009.

Phillips will now serve as executive producer on the new miniseries.

The production will also be overseen by John Goldwin, Sarah Colleton and Scott Reynolds, who previously contributed to the original series.

They will be joined by Bill Carraro (Blade Runner 2049, Lovecraft Country).

The series "Dexter", which aired from 2006 to 2013, is based on a series of novels by the American writer Jeffrey Lindsay.

The central character, serial killer Dexter Morgan, works as a criminologist.

He does not experience human emotions - he only reproduces them.

To satisfy the craving for violence, the hero suicides other murderers.

In accordance with a kind of code of honor, Dexter investigates crimes in order to find evidence of the guilt of potential victims.

Dexter's latest episode aired over seven years ago on September 22, 2013.

In October 2020, it became known that Showtime had ordered ten new episodes to make up a miniseries.

Like previous seasons of the project, it will be released under the name "Dexter".

Actor Michael C. Hall will return to the title role.

Previously, for the embodiment of the image of Dexter, he received the Screen Actors Guild of the USA, Golden Globe, Saturn and other awards.

Over the seven years on air, the series as a whole has been nominated for a variety of awards, including an Emmy and BAFTA.

Dexter is a very special show for both its millions of fans and our Showtime channel, which this breakout show made famous many years ago.

We would only dare to return to this unique character if we could find a truly creative approach worthy of the ingenious original series, ”said Gary Levine, head of the channel's entertainment department.

The miniseries will continue the storyline of the main show.

In the final episode of the eighth season, the protagonist faked his own death.

The new episodes take place ten years after the disappearance of Dexter, who now lives away from Miami under an assumed name.

Clyde Phillips revealed that the ending of the miniseries will have nothing to do with the ending of the eighth season.

According to him, the filmmakers had a great opportunity to develop and show a new ending.

At the same time, the showrunner stressed that the plot moves of the previous eight seasons are not subject to revision.

“We will not fix anything.

We're not going to betray our viewers and say, "Oh, it was just a dream."

What happened in the first eight years happened, ”said Phillips.

Dexter is expected to enter production in early 2021.

The premiere is scheduled for autumn.

Interestingly, the filmmakers considered completing the story entirely in season eight.

So, Clyde Phillips admitted that his plans for the finale included the scene of Dexter's execution.

Before dying, the character had to remember all his victims.

The final version did not suit many critics and viewers, but the filmmakers had room for maneuver.

Showtime employees discussed the possibility of filming a spin-off, but the idea was never implemented.

David Nevins, who then served as head of the channel's entertainment department, stressed that the new episodes of Dexter could only appear if Michael C. Hall agreed to play the main role again.
