  • Sixteen people were arrested during a huge crackdown that mobilized 120 police and gendarmes.

  • A little over 75,000 euros in cash, eight kilos of cannabis, 2.25 kg of cocaine and 700 grams of heroin were discovered during searches.

  • Investigators hope to have dealt a blow to drug trafficking in the Breton capital.

The police custody continued a few floors lower when the press was invited to a conference at the Rennes central police station on Wednesday.

The day before, sixteen people had been arrested during a vast crackdown which had mobilized 120 police and gendarmes.

Twelve men and four women aged between 27 and 60 but "the majority of whom are in their thirties" were taken into police custody.

All are suspected of having participated directly or indirectly in an important drug trafficking in Rennes and Saint-Malo.

About fifteen places were searched for a "significant" result in the eyes of the Rennes police.

Just over 75,000 euros in cash, eight kilos of cannabis, 2.25 kg of cocaine and 700 grams of heroin were discovered.

Handguns and airsoft-type weapons were also seized.

Six of the sixteen accused are in a state of recidivism and nine already have a criminal record, said the public prosecutor Philippe Astruc, who came to “congratulate” the police.

"All the means of the Penal Code have been deployed"

“It was a long-term investigation that we started in June with eight full-time investigators.

We still have twelve police officers on this case to carry out the custody.

All the means of the Penal Code have been deployed, and a lot of prosecutors have been disturbed, ”said Commissioner Hervé Luxembourger.

With this new crackdown, investigators hope to have dealt a blow to drug trafficking in the Breton capital.

Until now spared by violence, Rennes was the scene of several settlements at the beginning of the year.

"We had two in 2018, four in 2019 and ten in six months at the beginning of the year," said prosecutor Philippe Astruc, before specifying.

“The two cases of 2018 have been clarified, two in 2019 also and eight of the ten cases of 2020 also gave rise to arrests.

The situation seems stabilized ”.
