Actor Sacha Baron Cohen -

Capital Pictures / Starface

Is

Borat 2

racist?

Yes, if we are to believe the Kazakh American Association, which defends the interests of the Kazakh people on American soil.

The KAA is simply asking that Sacha Baron Cohen's new film, released last month, be withdrawn from the Oscar race.

The reason ?

The character embodied by the British comedian, a journalist himself racist, misogynist and clumsy, would convey racist clichés about the country.

"The Kazakh-American community, as well as the Kazakh community around the world, demand that the Academy of Cinema prevent

Borat 2

from being considered at the Oscars because of its stereotypes, racism, cultural appropriation and xenophobia" , wrote the persons in charge of the association in an open letter addressed to the Academy.

The KAA also affirms that Sacha Baron Cohen takes advantage of the fact that the media representation of the Kazakhs is weak to make fun of a people with “oppressive colonial past”.

Neither the comedian nor the Academy has responded to KAA's request yet.

In an interview for the

New York Times

, who plays Borat had explained that his film is a comedy and that according to him, represented Kazakhstan had "nothing to do with the real country."

Amazon Prime Video, which broadcasts the film on its platform, has yet to give figures on

Borat 2

audiences

, but the film has been very well received by critics and generated a huge buzz, especially thanks to a scene in which Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani found himself in an embarrassing situation with actress Maria Bakalova, who plays Borat's daughter Tutar, who is supposed to be 15 in the feature film.
