And are you more Alien or Predator?

-

20 minutes

  • Nine films from the “Alien” and “Predator” sagas are to be (re) discovered.

  • A great way to find out all about these ravenous creatures before seeing them face off in the ultimate "Aliens vs.

    Predator ”.

Extraterrestrials are among us!

Or at least on Prime Video starting this Monday, where nine films from the

Alien

and

Predator

sagas

are made available to Amazon Prime subscribers.

Works to be tasted to learn all about these ferocious creatures who have absolutely no respect for human life.

But by the way, in what order are they better to watch them?

The founding films: "Alien" and "Predator"

Alien

(1979) by Ridley Scott and

Predator

(1987) by John McTiernan have in common that they have two great filmmakers to lay the foundations for mythologies that have become classics of popular culture.

Ridley Scott delivers an ambitious work dominated by two strong figures: the xenomorphic alien with the design created by HR Giger and the character of Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver.

John McTiernan signs a delightful B series around a warrior creature collecting trophies and a commando led by a muscular Arnold Schwarzenegger.

These two films are to be discovered first, one after the other, in the order you want.

Not only, they are excellent each in their kind but they give the keys to understand the operation of the not very nice critters which give them their title.

In the Alien family

To follow,

Alien Covenant

(2017), which marked the return of Ridley Scott in the saga of which he was the founder.

The film was not made immediately after

Alien

, but the story falls between the first installment and the second,

Aliens, the return

(1986).

It can therefore be seen immediately after the first installment because it reveals a lot about the origins of the xenomorph unless one chooses to discover it last to revel in the references to the previous episodes.

It is the same for

Prometheus

(released in 2012 and absent from the Amazon Prime program) But we can also prefer to see it very last to understand where the beast comes from, after having seen what it is capable of.

For the other films, we recommend that you discover them in chronological order, if only because they follow the evolution of Ripley, the heroine who gains experience with each adventure.

The chronological order, let us remember, sees one after another

Aliens, the return

of James Cameron on a series of fights between marines and xenomorphs of a rare intensity,

Alien3

(1992) of David Fincher which sends Ripley in a penal colony on a screenplay co-written by cyberpunk author David Gibson.

The coldness of this aesthetically remarkable episode has confused many fans.

As for

Alien: Resurrection

(1997) by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, which accompanies the indestructible Ripley (cloned for the occasion) by his favorite actor, Dominique Pinon, he shows a certain sense of black humor specific to the work of the filmmaker.

They come back and we are (more or less) happy

It must be admitted that the Predators were less spoiled than their colleagues for the rest of their adventures.

Stephen Hopkins

Predator 2 (

1990) is a lot of fun evolving the monster in Los Angeles, but there's nothing unforgettable about it.

Nimrod Antal's

Predators

(2010) transforms Adrien Brody and a group of fighters into game so that alien heroes can hunt.

The two films can be viewed in any order.

Ditto for

The Predator

(2018) by Shane Black, which is not part of this anthology.

To top it off, we can end up with

Alien vs.

 Paul WS Anderson's

Predator

.

This king of the B series is having a blast by orchestrating the meeting at the top of the two stars of horrific SF.

A fight to be enjoyed between fans by betting on the winner.
