Recently, as the temperature in Siberia, Mongolia and other places dropped sharply, tens of thousands of winter migratory birds have flown to the Guanting Reservoir in the upper reaches of the Yongding River in Beijing for rest. It is expected that the peak period of concentrated arrival of migratory birds will continue until November 25.

Wildlife conservation experts predict that the total number of migratory birds passing through Beijing this winter will reach 60,000.

On the 13th, the reporter saw from the scene that as the sunset descended, more than 4,000 gray cranes appeared in a concentrated manner. The scene was spectacular.

The gray crane is a national second-class protected animal. There are more than 300 big and small swans and thousands of geese, gulls, and herons that have arrived at the same time. Tens of thousands of migratory birds appeared at the same time.

According to Li Li, director of the China Wildlife Conservation Association, the peak period of concentrated arrival of migratory birds is about ten days earlier than in previous years.

At present, there are more than 10,000 geese, ducks, waders, and swimming birds.

In the past few years, the total amount was around 40,000. This year, it is predicted that the number will reach 60,000 when it may be the most, because this year the bird population has a relatively large number of cubs.

The cold current has accelerated the pace of migratory birds going south. On the other hand, as a water conservancy hub on the upper reaches of the Yongding River, since the start of the Yongding River water replenishment project, the water storage capacity of the Guanting Reservoir has also been increasing. The water area is much larger than last year, and many have appeared. The tidal flats provide more places for migratory birds to settle and inhabit for food.

Li Li said that after the Guanting Reservoir was released in the past two years, many aquatic plants have grown, and biodiversity will become more and more complete.

If there is more food, there will be more birds, safer, and more birds.

With the arrival of the peak of migratory bird crossings, more and more people watch birds near the Guanting Reservoir, which also makes patrol work more difficult.

For this reason, wildlife protection workers suggest that bird lovers try to keep a distance from migratory birds to reduce disturbance to birds.

The Panther Wildlife Conservation Station urges everyone to watch birds in a civilized manner and refrain from driving close to the birds or feeding them food.

These birds fly all the way from Siberia and will have a lot of physical exertion. The above behavior will seriously interfere with their foraging and rest.

Bird watching enthusiasts should prepare telescopes and telephoto cameras in advance and keep a proper distance from the birds to ensure a normal living environment for the wintering migratory birds.
