Giant glacier rushes towards British Isles in Antarctica

British Isles of South Georgia threatened by giant iceberg in Antarctica -

A giant iceberg could collide with British territory in Antarctica.

The iceberg is codenamed A68A.

It is a block of ice 150 km long and 48 km wide, the largest iceberg on the planet and the fifth ever recorded.

It broke away from the pack ice west of Antarctica in July 2017. Since then it has drifted north, for about 1,400 km.

Currently, it is heading straight for the South Georgia Islands, a British territory.

This is an almost uninhabited area, but home to exceptional biodiversity, as well as two research stations with a capacity of 25 people who express their concerns to our partner Brut in the video below.
