An Ehpad located in Aigueperse, near Riom (Puy-de-Dôme) is strongly affected by the second wave of Covid-19.

Eleven people have died and many positive cases have been detected.

According to Luc Chaput, the mayor of the town, "between 60 and 80 people" - residents and staff alike - were contaminated, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

In total, the Serge-Bayle retirement home has 380 residents and 320 employees.

Visits prohibited

The situation deteriorated at the facility earlier this month.

The Regional Health Agency has since ordered a campaign of tests.

The latter are "almost finished", indicates the elected, specifying that "some 90% of infected people are asymptomatic".

The establishment had not experienced any cases during the first wave in the spring.

According to the mayor, the virus this time entered the retirement home "by staff".

To prevent the epidemic from progressing, visits to the nursing home are now prohibited.

In addition, containment has been put in place for the rooms of two departments.
