He had maintained the doubt concerning a candidacy for the presidency of the African Football Confederation (CAF).
But, finally, Augustin Senghor intends to be part of the game on March 12, 2021 in Rabat.
The boss of the Senegalese Federation (FSF) confirmed this to RFI on November 13, 2020, the day after the deadline to send his file to CAF headquarters.
Third West African
The lawyer is therefore the fifth declared candidate and the third from West Africa, after the Ivorian Jacques Anouma and the Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya.
Close to the outgoing CAF boss, the Malagasy Ahmad, Augustin Senghor could therefore be his opponent in four months, just like the South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe.
Augustin Senghor said he preferred to wait for the second confrontation against Guinea-Bissau in qualifying for CAN 2021, scheduled for November 15 in Bissau, to explain his decision.
The Lions could indeed win their qualification for the finals, on this occasion.
This would further enhance the image of the one who has led the FSF since 2009 and who has been a member of the CAF Executive Committee since 2017.
