The US Marines arrive in Taiwan to train the Taiwan military?

The Pentagon: Related reports are "inaccurate"

[Global Times Comprehensive Report] According to a US military "Stars and Stripes" report on the 10th, recently, some media reported that the US Marine Corps arrived in Taiwan to conduct training for the Taiwan military.

In response, the Pentagon said that the relevant reports were "inaccurate."

Earlier, many Taiwanese and Japanese media quoted sources from the Taiwan Defense Department and the Taiwan Navy Command Department, saying that the US Marine Corps Commando had begun on the 9th at the Zuoying Naval Base in Kaohsiung to carry out related actions against the Taiwan Marine Corps and the Amphibious Special Service Squadron Training for assault boats and speed boats infiltration operations.

If the news is true, it will be the first public recognition of such training activities by any of the Taiwan and the United States since the 1970s.

However, Pentagon spokesperson John Thorper said in a statement issued to The Stars and Stripes via the Indo-Pacific Command on the 11th that the report about the US Marine Corps in Taiwan was “inaccurate” and that “the United States is still committed to our "One China policy," said the Stars and Stripes, which recognizes Beijing’s claims of sovereignty over Taiwan.

Thorpe also declared in his statement that US actions have been guided by the "Taiwan Relations Act" and based on the assessment of Taiwan's defense needs, which has been more than 40 years.

He also claimed that "the United States will continue to provide Taiwan with the necessary amount of defense goods and services to enable Taiwan to maintain sufficient self-defense capabilities."

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at a regular press conference on the morning of the 11th: We firmly oppose any form of official and military contacts between the United States and Taiwan.
