To "avoid inappropriate behavior", as well as the organization of underground parties in the midst of a health crisis, Airbnb says it "has blocked more than 30,500 reservation requests in France between mid-August and mid-September".

This action came just after the tourist rental platform restricted the ability for travelers under the age of 25 to rent entire accommodation near their home.

Airbnb now invites the mayors of the arrondissements to report “inappropriate behavior” to it.

"Nearly 900 announcements" were also "deleted or suspended" in early November after having "been the subject of complaints or violations" of its policy "relating to parties and unauthorized events", which it has since explicitly prohibited. August 20, a statement said Thursday.

An address to report inappropriate behavior

These restrictions were first put in place in the United States and Canada, before being extended to Spain, France and the United Kingdom, said a spokesperson.

However, these bookings from young users were not blocked if the latter had "at least three positive comments" after having rented through Airbnb.

And in the capital, a "dedicated contact address" has been "created to allow district mayors to report inappropriate behavior", announces the platform.

This is in addition to the “assistance service dedicated to the neighborhood” created by Airbnb “several years ago”, making it possible to alert its teams, she said Thursday.

Accommodation capacity limited to 16 people

On August 20, the platform announced that it would ban “all parties and events” for reservations “until further notice”, and limit the capacity of accommodation offered for rental to 16 people.

Airbnb then specified that the internal regulations of 73% of the accommodation available on its platform in the world already prohibited parties and estimated that a “large majority of travelers” had a “responsible behavior” and respected these regulations and the neighborhood.

"We are determined to remove access to Airbnb from people who violate our community's rules," said Patrick Robinson, director of European public affairs at Airbnb, quoted in the statement.

"As France faces new confinement, our priority is to do what is necessary to ensure the safety of all," he added.
