The bimonthly magazine "Positive Psychology" has just released its new "consolation" issue, hoping to provide some comfort to confined readers.

The magazine's editors-in-chief, Sophie Behr and Nathalie Cohen, were invited by Philippe Vandel in Culture Médias to explain what this discipline of positive psychology is.

Teleworking, wearing a mask, health crisis ... How to keep smiling?

The new issue of the bimonthly magazine

Positive Psychology

intends to answer our confined questions.

Sophie Behr, editor-in-chief of the magazine and Nathalie Cohen, editor, were guests of Philippe Vandel in

Culture Médias

to explain the magazine's approach.

Faced with its direct competitor,

Psychologies,

the magazine was built on a different angle.

"When we chose this title, for me, it was actually a little negative nod to our friend Freud who considered that humans were just a bunch of neuroses and that we had to get rid of and fight against, ”explains Nathalie Cohen.

"And we wanted to make a magazine where we considered that the human being was a collection of talents and strengths and we wanted to offer a whole range of articles to support him in the cultivation of his strengths, his talents, and in understanding. All of this being scientifically substantiated, "she continues.

And finally, this stance has paid off.

Today, the numbers sell around 40,000 copies, to an audience of 60% women and 40% men aged 25 to 60, according to Nathalie Cohen.

Even during containment, sales of the bimonthly were not impacted.

"Overall, sales held up pretty well, we had an increase in subscriptions, we had an increase in direct sales that we make on our online store. But bookstores were therefore closed at the level of the reading offer, there is little left but the press. It has benefited us, that's for sure, "explains Nathalie Cohen.

But what is positive psychology?

Positive psychology is a bit like taking the opposite course from traditional psychology.

"Positive psychology is a discipline of psychology founded by Martin EP Seligman at the end of the 1990s and which seeks to understand the conditions for the development of the human being, that is to say in which conditions we feel good . So it can help in everyday life. But there are also psychiatrists like Christophe André who use it in severe depression. So she is not opposed to clinical psychology or the psychology of suffering " , explains Sophie Behr.

But be careful, according to the editor-in-chief, we must especially not confuse positive psychology and positive thinking: "We hear a lot about positive psychology lately, but in a rather watered-down version since it should not be confused with a thought positive which is the famous Coué method, 'you just have to be happy to get there', thanks to a magic wand. But obviously that's not it at all ".

The new issue of the magazine, titled on "consolation" has just been released on the newsstand.
