Waciny Araj: Damascus is the city of the heart

The Algerian novelist: "My first real text in the field of fictional literature was" Chronicle of the Pain of a Man ".

Between his story with creativity, his beginnings in writing the novel and his relationship with art and the Syrian capital, Damascus, which he described as the city of the heart, the Algerian novelist, Wasseni Al-Araj, toured during a dialogue session held remotely within the activities of the 39th session of the Sharjah International Book Fair, moderated by Mohammed Abu Obaid on the platform «Sharjah You read ».

Wasini, the winner of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in 2007, said, “My first real text in the field of fiction was“ Chronicle of a Man’s Pain ”, and I do not forget the impact of prominent cultural figures on me, such as Anton Makdisi and Hanna Mina, thanks to whom I became a novelist, I touched them a lot of hospitality, encouragement and appreciation, and I learned from them to believe in the importance of the intellectual’s support for the talented writer, and not to be stingy with him or to be complacent at the same time.

He added about his support and encouragement for young writers: “I celebrate the distinguished model, and it happened that I encouraged many writers and they are now well-known. I cannot exclude anyone from writing. Rather, I seek to give him an opportunity, I do not cut off his path, and I express him with his capabilities and I do not lie to him. ».

The owner of “The Lady of the Maqam” believed that the novel is one of the literary arts that relies heavily on talent, pointing out that the refinement and development of narrative talents is an important factor that contributes to discovering them and extrapolating the creations within them, which in turn is reflected in the structure of the work and the value of the achievement that the writer aspires to In his career.

He continued: “I recently participated in a workshop organized in Sharjah concerned with training young writers on fictional work, and it is necessary to establish such workshops, as they give talented writers the opportunity to write in an organized manner, and it also contributes to uncovering many promising writers in the field of fictional authorship. I prepare it as a literary art that depends primarily on the talent that leads to the creation of a great writer, as I learned during my career that small details reveal the abilities of a creative writer, and you can distinguish talented people from their writings and visions that they include in the text.

On the other hand, I cannot deny the existence of many works that are believed to be novels, but in reality they are thoughts. ”

He added: “I chaired many jury committees affiliated with major Arab prizes in the field of novels. Many of the posts that were received were thoughts called (novel). This prompts me to say that there are many writers who do not have clarity of vision in terms of writing a novel. A literary genre that has undergone many differences and developments from its inception until today.

And about his transformation from a storyteller to a novelist, and the impact of Damascus on him, the Algerian writer continued: “I am not tired of talking about Damascus because it is the city of the heart. A large part of my life and my memory is his case there in the Levant, and I actually went to her when I was writing the short story, and my first attempt It was represented in the book (The Geography of Scorched Bodies), which I considered possessed an extended story system, and did not possess a basic measure of the novel, despite my reading of many works from international, Arab and other novels that established this concept in me.

"I celebrate the distinguished model, and I encouraged the many writers who are known today."
