The queer rom-com that many have been waiting for!

Hulu unveiled this Tuesday the trailer for

Happiest Season

(

My in-laws, Christmas, and me

in French), a romantic Christmas comedy that features a lesbian couple worn by Kristen Stewart.

Directed and co-written by Clea DuVall (seen in

Veep

and

The Handmaid's Tale)

,

Happiest Season

follows Abby, played by LBGT icon Kristen Stewart, who wants to propose to his girlfriend Harper, played by Mackenzie Davis (seen in

Blade Runner 2049)

), during a family celebration during the Christmas period.

As she prepares to spend a stay with the in-laws for the first time, she discovers that her partner has not come out to her conservative parents.

Abby is then forced to pretend to be her partner's roommate.

A scenario that recalls that of

A Very Very Gay Christmas

, released in 2009, a romantic Christmas comedy which featured a male homosexual couple.

Romantic Christmas comedies featuring lesbian couples are too rare, but

Happiest Season

isn't the first Christmas movie featuring a lesbian couple.

Let It Snow

, a choral film released in 2019 on Netflix, featured a kiss between two young women.

Lez Bomb

, released in 2018, also followed a young woman, who had not come out and brought her girlfriend home for Thanksgiving.

In 2018,

Season of Love

, took again the principle of the crossed love stories of

Love Actually

, by staging lesbians.

Initially expected in theaters,

Happiest Season

will finally be broadcast, health crisis requires, on the Hulu streaming platform.

In France, it is currently expected in theaters on January 13, 2021.

More inclusive Christmas movies

For its part, the Lifetime channel has announced the release of its very first LGBT film, which tells the budding love story between two men.

A gay couple, played by actors Ben Lewis (

) and Blake Lee (

Parks and Recreation

), two actors who are also married in real life.

The American channel also announced its first Christmas TV movie with an Asian cast, titled

Sugar & Spice Holiday

and another with a Latin cast, baptized

Feliz NaviDAD

(November 21, 2020), with Mario Lopez, one of the stars of

Save by the Bell

.

In

Christmas Ever After

, the channel also features a disabled actress for the first time.

For its part, the American channel Hallmark will unveil on November 22

The Christmas House

with Jonathan Bennett (

Lolita in spite of me

) and Robert Buckley (

The Scott brothers

) who will play a gay couple who are looking to adopt their first child.

Hallmark will also put the Jewish holiday Hanukkah at the heart of a Christmas TV movie on December 20, titled

Love, Lights, Hanukkah

 !

A wind of modernity and inclusiveness is finally blowing on Christmas rom-com!
