  • Pharmaceutical industry. This is how Pfizer rejected public money for its vaccine: "You have to get rid of bureaucracy. The subsidy always comes with strings attached."

This Tuesday our country registers a sad record of deaths in this second wave:

411 in 24 hours.

Apart from the update that the Ministry of Health made on Wednesday due to an adjustment of the methodology, in which 1,623 deaths were added to the total in this crisis, last Thursday it reached 368, it fell slightly on Friday (347) and

this Monday 512 were reported on the three days of the weekend

.

These 411 are added to the global number of deaths in our country in this pandemic and there are already 39,756 (in the absence of integrating deaths in residences).

In the last seven days, deaths in our country

have risen to 1,209

, also a new record for the pandemic (the previous one was set on Friday, 1,088).

By CCAA, Andalusia has already exceeded 200 in the last week (220), followed by Aragón (162) and Castilla y León (161) and Asturias (113) rising.

The rest of the CCAA are below 100.

It is undoubtedly the worst figure in the report presented by the Ministry of Health, since the number of new infections is 17,395 (lower than in previous days).

Thus, there are already 1,398,613 people who have been infected in Spain since the start of the pandemic

.

Of the more than 17,000 confirmed cases, 7,552 correspond to cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours.

By Autonomous Communities, the 1,914 of Catalonia 2,075 and 1,132 of the Basque Country stand out.

The third is Madrid (959) which does not reach a thousand.

"Stabilization"

Fernando Simón has pointed out that

"there is a clear stabilization in recent days"

in the incidence of the virus in the whole of Spain.

"We do not know if we are going to maintain ourselves, I hope so. I am not going to say that we are doing very favorably, but these data incite us to think that we are in a phase of stabilization, remission," he added.

The plateau in incidence has not yet been noticed in hospital admissions, patients in incentives and deaths, Simón has admitted:

"We will begin to notice the impact of this stabilization in the coming days"

.

What we could expect if the stable trend is confirmed, according to the Health spokesperson, is "a progressive decrease, but always very slow, in ICU occupancy and fatality" during the next few dates.

The epidemiologist stressed that Spain is, in terms of incidence, "in 15th or 16th place" of the countries of the European Union.

"But they are still very, very high incidences," he

admitted.

If transmission is triggered again, in addition, "it would be too much for our health system," Simón warned, given the high figures in which the aforementioned "stabilization" would have been achieved.

"We have to continue to be very cautious, because the truth is that, at any moment, it could change," he concluded.

20,943 patients admitted for Covid

The cumulative incidence (AI) -number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days)

decreases slightly compared to the previous day (529.43)

which had increased slightly compared to Friday (525.74) and this Tuesday marks 524.60 .

Melilla (1059.12) and Aragón remain fired, although it has dropped one thousand (976.43), and since yesterday Ceuta has also exceeded the thousand threshold, which today registers the worst AI in all of Spain (1,066.33).

Navarra has also dropped by one thousand (910.41), and another eight autonomous communities are above the national average: Castilla y León (858.75), La Rioja (796.72), Basque Country (779.11) , Murcia (749.45), Catalonia (678.44), Andalusia (568.98), Extremadura (555.49) and Castilla-La Mancha (525.37).

In terms of hospitalizations, today there are

20,943 patients admitted for Covid in all of Spain

, a figure slightly lower than yesterday, which registered the highest number of hospitalized for Covid in this second wave (21,029).

As has become customary in the last two weeks, more than half are from three communities: Catalonia (4,483), Andalusia (3,489) and Madrid (2,773).

They also have a figure close to 2,000 Castilla y León (1,817) and Comunidad Valenciana (1,713).

In the last seven days, a total of 4,924 people have entered.

The worst figures are taken by Andalusia (958) and Castilla y León (782), well above the other autonomous communities (the third is Asturias, which, with 475 admissions in the last week, has surpassed Aragon).

Of those almost 5,000, 366 have been transferred to the ICU in the last week and 127 of them in the last 24 hours

(a figure slightly lower than in previous days).

Thus, the total number of patients who have passed through the ICU since the start of the pandemic is 14,362 and the number of people hospitalized is 171,130 (the aforementioned Health methodology adjustment eliminated 15,056 hospitalizations and 2,185 ICU admissions from the total last Wednesday because "they did not meet the criteria or corresponded to duplicate cases").

"Vaccinations in January"

On future immunization programs, Fernando Simón has advanced: "It is very possible that we will have vaccines to start vaccinating in January", although he has warned:

"We are not certain."

He has also warned that this date will be, in the best of cases, that of the first vaccines:

"What we cannot do is vaccinate everyone at the same time,"

Simón recalled.

"No one is aware that, once we have the vaccine, the situation changes radically," he said.

"The situation may arise in which several vaccines are being administered at the same time," he stated, since

"none" will have enough doses to vaccinate the entire population in the time that would be desirable

.

In reinforcement of the idea that a plateau has been reached in the transmission, still pending to be noticed in the admissions and deaths, Simón recalled that

"in the last two weeks no day has exceeded the maximum peak of October 24, 25 ".

Assistance capacity

Regarding the healthcare capacity of hospitals, the average number of beds occupied by patients with coronavirus in Spain, not including other pathologies, is 16.91%.

Intensive care beds show a higher percentage: 31.70%

(both parameters have decreased slightly since yesterday, from 17.28% of occupied beds and 31.76% of ICU beds).

In this last sense, La Rioja is particularly concerned, with an ICU occupancy of 60%, Aragón (51.52%), Melilla (50%), Asturias (46.24%), Catalonia (44.41%), Navarra ( 43.05%), Castilla y León (41.67%) and Ceuta (41.18%).

These percentages are only for Covid patients, we must add those who occupy ICU beds due to other pathologies or interventions.

At a European level that does not usually offer changes, there is one notable.

France yesterday surpassed Russia in the number of infections in this pandemic.

Thus, it already adds 1,807,479 cases of coronavirus and Russia 1,796,132.

Spain remains in third position (1,398,613), followed by the United Kingdom (1,213,363), followed by Italy (960,373) and Germany (687,200).

For deaths, it is the United Kingdom that continues to lead with a total of 49,238 deaths, followed by Italy (41,750), and France (40,987) and Spain (39,756).

The AI for Belgium (1,458.4) and that of the Czech Republic (1,390.1) have decreased a bit but remain very high, and Switzerland remains third with 1,055.8.

France is dangerously close to 1000, although it has fallen slightly compared to yesterday (908.5) and the following are Poland (743.9), the Netherlands (626.8) and Italy (655.4), which continues to rise rapidly ( almost 100 points in five days).

He has qualified, however, that "we have to be cautious" in interpreting the data.

"But it does give the feeling that we are in a stabilization situation," he insisted.

"It is possible that these figures (of deaths) will continue to be observed for a few more days," he warned.

"In hospitalization and ICUs it is possible that the impact (of the measures) will be seen a few days earlier."
