Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. announced that it has completed and started operation of the first facility for anti-terrorism, which is obligatory to install at Kawauchi Nuclear Power Station Unit 1 in Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture.

The first unit of the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant was completed as a "specific serious accident response facility" equipped with a spare control room as a countermeasure against terrorism caused by an aircraft collision.



Installation was obligatory under the new regulatory standards for the nuclear power plant established after the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, and Kyushu Electric Power was proceeding with construction at a cost of more than 240 billion yen, including the facilities at Unit 2 from the beginning. ..



And on the 11th, the facility was completed and started operation after passing the final inspection by the National Nuclear Regulation Authority.



This is the first time in Japan that a facility for dealing with specific serious accidents has been completed.



The deadline for installing this facility at Unit 1 was March, but Kyushu Electric Power was unable to complete it within the deadline due to the large-scale construction involved, and was forced to suspend the operation of Unit 1. ..



With the completion, Kyushu Electric Power plans to start and restart the Unit 1 reactor later this month and resume power generation on the 26th of this month.



The Unit 2 facility is also expected to be completed in the middle of next month.
