A wide range of distinctive designs presented by the sixth edition of the "Dubai Design Week" came loaded with concerns about the shape of life after the "Corona" pandemic, structural works that were exhibited among the buildings of the "Dubai Design District" that carried the concepts of social distancing through the dedication of different forms of gardens and benches. In public places, the exhibition in this year was distinguished by the presence of a number of works inspired by the Emirati heritage, focusing on the local identity, in addition to displaying the latest innovations in the design world through virtual platforms, so that the current version is more global in its approach to audiences all over the world.

Emirati presence

The current version is distinguished by the Emirati participations, including the exhibition «Fashkaltvit», presented to «Emirates Today» President and curator of the 1971 Center, Fatima Al Mahmoud, and said: «The exhibition was launched previously in Sharjah, and was launched again in Design Week to introduce people to the work of designers in Al Khaleej, and I worked on evaluating the exhibition alongside Kholoud Bin Thani, as we searched for the launch of textiles from palm trees, and after much research we presented the idea to the (Heritage) Council for Contemporary Crafts, and it worked to make our research possible, through all the above. ”She drew Al Mahmoud Noting that the works in this exhibition are from many countries, which embody the date palm and its importance, including a work entitled "Continuous Tender" by an artist from Saudi Arabia who used date seeds and sewed a dress embroidered with these seeds, while the artist, Maryam Amira, from the Emirates, presented a work that talks about Sustainability, as she designed a dress using the shape of palm fronds with sewing, and Hessa Al Suwaidi presented an installation consisting of textiles, and his idea was derived from the arish and palm trees, to present the artist Khaled decorated the palm of life through a carpet, and Al Mahmoud emphasized that the exhibition depends mainly on textiles, as well as on India

The architectural set that celebrates the date palm, and has been working on it since 2019, and there will be a group of additions to the exhibition in the coming years.

"Mirage"

The Iraqi designer, Hawzan Zanjana, who presented the installation work for the “Abwab” section under the title “Mirage”, confirmed that the idea of ​​the work crystallized through the presence of the leader who meets with people in a council, as the concept of the existence of clans prevailed, indicating that each column represented An emirate from the seven emirates. As for the technical aspect, the Iraqi designer pointed out that it is called “the round earth” and it is an ancient technique, and it was used by the Assyrians and Chaldeans, and the walls were large, and for this the focus was on producing large and light columns. The tent, and about the quality of the materials used in the work, he pointed out that the chairs are made of sand, and a special technique has been devised to prepare them, while the columns and the table are made of copper sheets. Hozan is participating in the exhibition for the third time.
