Bird flu Small animals bring in virus Kagawa Higashikagawa November 9th 20:15

After the bird flu virus was detected at a poultry farm in Higashikagawa City, Kagawa Prefecture, a team of experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries conducted a field survey and found that there were gaps where small animals could invade near the abnormal chickens. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has decided to narrow down the infection route, saying that small animals may have brought the virus.

In Kagawa Prefecture, bird flu virus has been detected in two poultry farms earlier this month, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said on the 9th, of which more than 30 chickens died from the 5th to the 7th of this month. At the poultry farm in Higashikagawa City, where the virus was found, the results of an investigation by a team of experts were announced.

According to the results, migratory birds carrying the virus to the pond, which is about 700 meters away from the poultry farm, were confirmed, and near the chicken where the first abnormality was found, a conveyor belt was used to take the dung out of the poultry house. There was an opening that allowed small animals to enter and exit, as well as a doorway for removing dung.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has decided to further narrow down the infection route, saying that small animals and people entering and exiting may have brought the virus.

The virus is the same highly pathogenic "H5N8 type" as Mitoyo

In addition, the virus was confirmed to be a highly pathogenic "H5N8 type", which is the same type found at a poultry farm in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, and has a high mortality rate.

This type of virus was also detected in wild bird droppings in Hokkaido and South Korea last month, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is investigating the relationship.
