Even if the first effects of the containment are being felt, the lifting of the restriction measures is still a long way off.

Forced isolation is particularly difficult for the elderly, but nursing homes are reluctant to welcome visitors for fear of allowing the emergence of new clusters.

REPORTAGE

Sunday on Europe 1, the government spokesman, Gabriel Attal, was categorical: there will be no confinement imposed for the elderly.

While nursing homes and retirement homes are particularly affected, visits are still allowed, unlike in spring.

However, it is difficult to maintain a social link while respecting the health rules against Covid-19.

Europe 1 visited an establishment in the Paris region.

Two 45-minute visits per week

"Right now, I'm all alone in a room, I can't do anything. It's not a life," sighs Susanne, 87, who is no longer entitled to her activities.

Groupings are here limited to the maximum.

Her husband's visits are her only breath of fresh air, but they are now limited to twice 45 minutes a week.

"Before, I came every day. I had access to his room so we could discuss, possibly see a television show," says Charles, the unhappy husband nostalgic for the pre-Covid.

"It is not currently possible."

Each visit is preceded by a temperature measurement.

Hydroalcoholic gel, mask and distancing are mandatory.

"We comply with everything else, it doesn't matter," explains Anne, one of Susanne's two daughters.

"As long as I can come, I'm fine."

The next arrival of antigenic tests?

The director of the establishment, Francesco Tancredi, would like even more precautions from the relatives of residents.

In particular, he would like to be able to require them to have a recent negative Covid test.

"I have control over everyone who works in the facility and over the residents, but I do not control the families."

Antigenic tests, with a result in thirty minutes, could be a new tool to limit contamination in nursing homes.
