A brain-dead Saudi youth saves 5 lives by donating his organs

Saudi media reports said today, Sunday, that a young Saudi man had a brain death as a result of a traffic accident that saved five lives in the Kingdom by donating his organs.

The 24-year-old was brain dead in hospital, when his family decided to donate all his organs by informing the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, according to Saudi electronic newspapers today, Sunday.

The surgical and medical teams at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh performed five simultaneous organ transplants within 10 hours for five patients, including a 23-month-old infant suffering from failure of vital organs, namely the small intestine, heart, liver and kidneys.

The number of medical teams that participated directly in the five operations amounted to about 70 specialists in surgery, anesthesia, nursing, laboratories and radiology, and seven operating rooms, in addition to other supportive logistical departments.
