THE ESSENTIAL

  • Nine days after the knife attack perpetrated in the Basilica of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), a national tribute to the victims, chaired by Prime Minister Jean Castex, is organized this Saturday in the presence of relatives of the three people killed on October 29, two women and the sacristan of the church.

  • This sober ceremony takes place at the top of Castle Hill, a park overlooking the city and its magnificent Mediterranean bay.

  • During this national tribute, the Prime Minister, on site from 10 am, will have "a time for discussion with the families of the victims" and will give decorations to the municipal police officers of Nice, according to the provisional schedule of the ceremony.

  • Éric Dupond-Moretti, Keeper of the Seals, Frédérique Vidal, Minister of Higher Education and Marlène Schiappa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, will also be present, alongside Mayor LR Christian Estrosi and the former President of the Republic Nicolas Sarkozy.

Besides Jean Castex, several members of the government and Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, the former President of the Republic Nicolas Sarkozy will participate in the tribute.

All the religious authorities of Nice will also take part in the tribute alongside the families.

Victims of the July 14, 2016 attack on the Promenade des Anglais are also expected.
