China News Agency, Dunhuang, November 7th (Reporter Feng Zhijun) On November 7, more than 150 senior experts and scholars of Dunhuang in China gathered at the Mogao Grottoes, a world cultural heritage site, to commemorate the unearthed cultural relics of the Dunhuang Buddhist scripture cave, the Chinese nation and all mankind The 120th anniversary of the discovery of important cultural heritage, summarizing the research results and historical experience of Dunhuang Studies over the past 100 years, and promoting the greater development of Dunhuang Studies in the 21st century.

On the same day, the "2020 Dunhuang Forum: Symposium to Commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the Discovery of Tibetan Scripture Caves" co-sponsored by the Dunhuang Academy and the Dunhuang Turfan Society of China opened at Mogao Grottoes.

Hao Chunwen, president of the Dunhuang Turpan Society of China, told a reporter from China News Agency that after more than a hundred years of development, Dunhuang studies have gone from the plight of "Dunhuang is in China and Dunhuang studies abroad" to form "Dunhuang in China, and Dunhuang studies in the world". In the research situation, as the endless research results in many fields are released, the study of Dunhuang Studies in China has occupied the international discourse power and dominance.

120 years ago, the world-famous Dunhuang Buddhist scripture cave was discovered. Tens of thousands of volumes of ancient documents and silk paintings on paper began to appear in the sky, and soon a comprehensive discipline-Dunhuang Studies was formed worldwide.

However, due to historical reasons such as the loss of a large number of unearthed cultural relics overseas, the study of Dunhuang Studies in China was in a backward state.

"Before the 1980s and 1990s, due to various conditions, it was difficult for Chinese scholars to go out, and it was even harder to see with their own eyes the Tibetan scripture cave cultural relics scattered in dozens of museums in more than ten countries around the world." Hao Chunwen said At that time, not to mention the systematic study of Dunhuang studies, and I didn’t even know what was in the cultural relics of the Tibetan scripture cave.

Later, as international cooperation became more frequent, Chinese scholars could go out to investigate and research more conveniently.

Hao Chunwen revealed that in the next five to fifteen years, eight important tasks in Dunhuang academic circles will be implemented, including publishing a new edition of Dunhuang Grottoes and establishing a global Dunhuang literature resource sharing platform.

I hope that domestic Dunhuang scholars can continue to maintain a pioneering and enterprising research trend, and welcome international Dunhuang experts to join the research camp to promote further breakthroughs in international Dunhuang studies.

Zhao Shengliang, Dean of the Dunhuang Academy, said that in the 21st century, history, religion, ancient literature, linguistics, art, and the history of science and technology have been greatly developed in the 21st century.

At the same time, the in-depth study of Dunhuang Grottoes has also continuously promoted the development of modern art creation fields such as painting, sculpture, architecture, calligraphy, music, dance and even costume design.
