  • This Friday evening, 143 people with the coronavirus were in an intensive care unit.

  • Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne then Loire-Atlantique are the three most affected departments in the region.

Rather spared by the first wave of Covid-19, the Pays-de-la-Loire region is not escaping the virus this time, which continues to spread among the population.

In recent days, the Regional Health Agency has expressed its "concern" at the rapid deterioration of indicators, some of which show that "the second wave is more formidable than the first".

"That of mortality worries us greatly," confessed Thursday evening Benoît James, director of the Covid-19 crisis unit at the ARS.

We had one or two deaths on average per day at the start of the school year, we are at 11 since this weekend ”.

If this figure is close to the peak of the first wave, the number of Covid-19 positive people hospitalized on Friday (885) has largely exceeded the maximum observed in the spring (462).

This is not yet the case for resuscitation: this Friday evening, 143 people were there.

Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, then Loire-Atlantique

According to other figures, the incidence rate in Pays-de-la-Loire amounts to 340 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with a positivity rate of 16.7%.

Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, then Loire-Atlantique are currently the three most affected departments if we refer to the incidence rate.

But "the virus is now circulating in all places and territories, but we are seeing a strong increase in nursing homes", warned Thursday evening Jean-Jacques Coiplet, director of the ARS.

According to him, the number of patients in retirement homes has almost doubled in one week.

In the Loire-Atlantique department, a quarter of these nursing homes were affected by at least one case in one of their resident or caregiver.
