Martin Scorsese has previously been awarded both an Oscar statuette and a Palme d'Or - and now the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award joins the American director's collection.

"Martin Scorsese and his films have opened up new worlds for us, worlds we did not know existed.

They have been eye-openers, who have broadened our vision and touched our hearts ", the festival's management writes in a press release.

"An honor to honor Scorsese"

With the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award, the Stockholm Film Festival wants to honor the life work of a person active in film.

"Martin Scorsese is one of the biggest movie giants.

The timeless life works he has created are as many as the prizes and awards he has deservedly been awarded.

It is an honor to honor him with the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 ", says Git Scheynius, director of the Stockholm Film Festival.

During his many years of career, Scorsese has directed films such as "Taxi Driver", "The Bull from the Bronx", "Mafia Brothers" and "The Wolf of Wall Street".

Due to the current corona pandemic, the American director will not be present during the festival - but instead will receive the award during a zoom meeting with the audience on 13 November.

Corona-secured festival

In October, it was announced that actress and director Isabella Rossellini will also be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award during this year's festival.

Stockholm Film Festival is being held this year in a corona-secured version, where only 50 people are admitted to cinemas - and with a program that is about half as large as usual.

The festival takes place on 11 - 22 November.
