Johnny Depp has lost the film role in Fantastic Monster, several American media and the actor himself writes on social media.
He has appeared in the two previous films and there are plans to make two more.
But the actor is now leaving the role, at the request of the film company Warner Bros.
He writes that:
"I have been asked by Warner Bros. to leave my role as Grindelwald, and it is a request I accept and respect."
The news comes shortly after the actor lost a trial against the British newspaper The Sun. He sued the newspaper for libel after an article in which he was accused of abusing his ex-wife.
