Telecom operators have seen a significant increase in Internet traffic since the start of the second lockdown on October 30.

The increase would be similar to that observed during the first confinement last spring, report

Les Echos

.

For operators, this implies increased vigilance in order to avoid technical problems linked to network congestion.

But Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and even Free wish to reassure their customers: there is no risk of breakdown.

More French people connected to fiber

"We are ready, we have a business plan and, above all, we have the experience of the first containment," said Fabienne Dulac, CEO of Orange France, on Europe 1 recently.

“The monitoring of our networks has been strengthened.

As the schools are open this time, students use less bandwidth.

In addition, the operators had a little more time to prepare.

"The curfew had already started to change the behavior of customers," especially on teleworking, explained Fabienne Dulac.

Finally, according to Arcep (Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications, Posts and Press Distribution), the number of people connected to fiber increased from 7.6 to 8.3 million between the two confinements.

This change in connection habits offers greater capacity to the network.
