Little by little, the brown bear population is increasing in the Pyrenees.

After the deaths of two bears in the spring, the male Cachou in April and a bear found shot dead in June in Ariège, the associations for the defense of the plantigrade are announcing a sixth litter of cubs this year.

They are in all eleven to have been spotted in the massif.

A total of 55 bears

This new bear cub was born in the Spanish Pyrenees, according to the Pays de l'ours-Adet association.

A prolific year since never so many cubs were born in the massif.

These eleven births are distributed in the western and central part of the Pyrenees in Val d'Aran, Ariège and Haute-Garonne.

The association also indicates that three bears not detected last year were found in 2020 thanks to the first genetic analyzes, bringing the number of 2019 to 55 bears in total in the Pyrenees.
