  • Several hundred elected officials, association activists and members of civil society gathered in the Stop Amazon 44 collective.

  • They sign a platform with the aim of “refusing the arrival of Amazon and its world in our territories!

While the debate on competition between Amazon and small businesses has resurfaced in this second confinement, discontent is mounting in Loire-Atlantique where the e-commerce giant must set up its future large platform in Montbert, south of Nantes.

Thursday, a column entitled "No Amazon in my area" and signed by about 300 elected officials, activists and members of civil society was published.

Objective: "to refuse the arrival of Amazon and its world in our territories!"

"

This new collective, called Stop Amazon 44, does not intend to let this ecommerce player “impose their economic model on traders and deliverers in the region”.

Precarious jobs, harsh working conditions… According to the forum, “the destruction of jobs following the impact of Amazon on local merchants is no longer to be demonstrated”.

Collectives, elected officials from the left, academics ...

In addition to Attac, Alternatiba, or the CGT, one finds among the signatories of the elected officials of the left and in particular several deputies to the town hall of Nantes such as Bassem Asseh (PS).

Michelle Meunier, PS senator from Loire-Atlantique, or Ronan Dantec, environmental senator, also signed this appeal, in which several dozen professionals, academics, or citizens of the territory joined forces.

"We therefore ask the public authorities to act so that employment, working conditions, local commerce are preserved and that the relocation of production and services can take place", concludes the forum.

What to react the regional councilor Johann Boblin (LR), president of the community of communes of Grand-Lieu, who defends the project.

“The Nantes ecolo-socialists have developed large shopping areas, which have killed the small town center business!” He writes.

And now they would like to make it forget by going after Amazon!

What cynicism!
