Toulouse Town Hall

  • For several days, given the health and confinement context, the holding of the Christmas market had been called into question in Toulouse.

  • The town hall of Toulouse formalized this Thursday the cancellation of the Christmas market which was to open Place du Capitole on November 27, for one month.

It was to be held from November 27 to December 27 and welcome a hundred exhibitors on the Place du Capitole.

But due to the coronavirus epidemic, and the lockdown in particular, the Christmas market will not take place this year.

A rumor of cancellation which had been circulating for several days and which has just been confirmed this Thursday by the town hall of Toulouse.

“The conditions necessary to maintain its openness cannot unfortunately be guaranteed today neither to its organizer nor to the traders who participate in it.

Beyond the constraints related to the fight against the virus, the uncertainties about the evolution of the situation between now and December do not allow its traders to get involved without significant consequences for their businesses ”, justified the Capitol.

For several days, traders offering food stands, expected not to be present this year on the market.

"The organization confirmed it to us, it was too complicated with the compulsory restrictions because there could not have been any consumption on the spot and no more than 1,000 people at the same time on the market", explains Dominique Millot, boss of SARL Chando which runs the highly prized stand at Aligot.

For the latter, this cancellation is not without consequences because this meeting represents 70% of his turnover and he has already had to part with two of his employees.

“Even if it hurts me, if I'm going to suffer from it, there are so many restrictions that it wouldn't have been profitable.

It is better that we redo a super Christmas market next year in good conditions, ”concludes this entrepreneur from Tarn who understands the need to put in place measures to limit the circulation of the virus.
