China News Service, Beijing, November 5 (Reporter Yu Lixiao) In recent years, Beijing has made important archaeological discoveries at 9 sites along the Grand Canal, including Baifu Spring, Yuhe Old Road, and Lu County Old City. The types of sites include gates, Dykes, bridges, wharves and other canal hydraulic remains. These achievements have further enhanced the historical and cultural connotation of the Grand Canal culture and activated the historical scene.

According to Chen Mingjie, the "Green Heart" in Beijing's urban subcenter discovered the old Grand Canal 13 years before Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1808), which became a clear evidence of the rise and fall of the Grand Canal water transport in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.

The site of the Xiaosheng Temple next to it is the first archaeological discovery of the temple site dedicated to the river god in the Beijing section of the Grand Canal, which is of great value to the study of water transport culture.

In the middle reaches, the Wanshou Temple Middle Road, West Road, and East Road were fully repaired, and more than 70 ancient buildings have been repaired, effectively eliminating the hidden safety hazards of ancient buildings, and creating conditions for the centralized and contiguous protection of Wanshou Temple, Yanqing Temple, and Wuta Temple .

Chen Mingjie said: "In the next step, we will help the north end of the Grand Canal-Randian Tower to successfully apply for the national key cultural relics protection unit, especially the ancient city of Lu County, Tongzhou Ancient City, and the ancient city of Jiaoxian County into an important cultural belt of the Grand Canal. node."

In recent years, Beijing has continued to improve its heritage monitoring and management work, benchmarking international organizations and the State Council’s cultural relics authority on the implementation of the World Heritage Convention’s heritage sites, and continuing to promote the protection and management of the Grand Canal in a refined, professional and comprehensive direction. Develop, strengthen cooperation with international organizations, expert teams, and professional institutions, and guide local governments to conduct daily monitoring of the Grand Canal heritage area and buffer zone.

At the same time, Beijing also cooperates with relevant departments to manage and control construction activities along the Grand Canal in accordance with the law to protect the landscape and environment along the route.

Organize professional institutions to carry out heritage protection assessments and physical examinations, especially using digital means to improve heritage monitoring.

Talking about the interpretation and excavation of the cultural value of the Grand Canal, Chen Mingjie said that Beijing pays attention to research as the basis, and cooperates with relevant departments to compile the "Grand Canal Cultural Dictionary·Beijing Volume" to do a good job of related basic work for building a data platform.

At the same time, special protection of ancient bridges was carried out, the city's ancient bridge survey and file preparation focusing on the Grand Canal were launched, and the decommissioning and repair of Bali Bridge was carried out.

Chen Mingjie emphasized that the Wanning Bridge is not only the Grand Canal, but also the heritage site of the central axis. Its protection and repair plan is being developed. It is hoped that through protection, its cultural value can be tapped and history can speak.

Regarding the display of the Grand Canal heritage, in recent years, the concept of cultural relic protection has gradually changed from the cultural relic onto the surrounding environment.

Chen Mingjie pointed out that heritage sites pay more attention to heritage environmental protection, and through the implementation of environmental remediation and archaeological excavations, the heritage historical environment will be further restored, the display and interpretation capabilities will be improved, and the public will better perceive the heritage historical pattern.

Beijing focuses on strengthening the construction of the museum. In the design of the Grand Canal Museum, the canal is used as a clue to penetrate the canal elements, and the three elements of boat, sail and water in the ancient canal landscape are used to integrate history and culture into the building and make it a mosaic "Ancient wind sails" and "canal boats" in the urban forest.

The Lu County Ancient City Museum will be shining and distinctive in the future.

Chen Mingjie said that Beijing's creation of a "museum city" is to better display and inherit the heritage, so that the people can increase their cultural confidence in the perception of the beauty of cultural relics.
