What is happening with the electoral recount causes a serious deterioration to the institutions of the first democracy in the world.
And its shaking may produce aftershocks in the rest of the world at a time when
what
diverse enemies of liberal democracy converge everywhere
, which has guaranteed Western societies the greatest decades of prosperity in all history. The White House is in the hands of just four states, once the results in the others are already clear.
But it is a fact that
polls that predicted a military walk for the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, have been wrong again
.
In the same way that the US media and analysts were unable in their day to feel the
rising tide of frustration from the average American
, a very transversal phenomenon that could not be explained with old ideological clichés and that gave victory to
Trump
versus
Hillary clinton
, four years later a bias has re-imposed among analysts that makes them incapable of detecting the deep currents of opinion of Americans.
From there
the result so tight that it now condemns the country to traumatic uncertainty
Trump, aware that this was the most likely scenario on election night, had been preparing the ground for weeks and
denouncing a possible electoral fraud that has completely muddied the playing field
.
And so, in clear contempt for democratic procedures and for the institutions that he before anyone else is obliged to preserve, he has delivered an unacceptable speech in which he has proclaimed himself the winner of the elections - while he spoke, Biden even took a minimum advantage in already determined delegates - and has launched the
senseless accusation that they want to "steal" the triumph
.
It is a very serious irresponsibility that only deepens the deep gap that today divides the nation and that, hopefully not, could end up unleashing outbreaks of violence.
Disturbances already predicted by the owners of numerous businesses that had decided to wall their premises before election day, in an image as unusual as it is sad.The still president wants the Supreme Court to suspend the scrutiny of the votes that have not yet been counted , something that escapes all democratic logic and that can hardly have any legal coverage.
But
the sole possibility that the electoral result will end up being settled in a stormy judicial labyrinth

hits the credibility of the system at the worst possible time
In any case, it is not ruled out that the count follows its normal course, as is desirable.

Although we would be talking about a triumph too agonizing.
Trump has maintained strength in the main fiefdoms that crowned him four years ago.
And the Democratic candidate, in more advantageous starting conditions due to the logical wear and tear that the opposition has inflicted on his rival.

continuing to maintain such rudimentary voting and ballot counting mechanisms in many states only encourages situations of chaos and uncertainty like the one we are experiencing right now
