The drag of the second wave of coronavirus continues.

According to the report of the Ministry of Health published this Wednesday,

25,042 new infections

have been registered

, the second record in the entire pandemic

(the first was marked last Friday, when Health notified 25,595).

It must be taken into account that the data for Catalonia has also been included, which was not updated on Tuesday due to technical problems.

Thus,

there are already 1,284,408 people who have been infected in our country

, according to official statistics, since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of the more than 25,000 confirmed cases,

8,924 correspond to diagnostic tests performed in the last 24 hours

(3,783 more than on Tuesday).

A large part of them are concentrated in Madrid, which scores 1,942 infections compared to 382 on Tuesday;

Catalonia (1,619) and the Basque Country (1,166).

On the other hand,

the official count has added 1,623 deaths

to the total number of people who have lost their lives due to the virus.

The huge difference in deaths compared to the 100 or 200 daily in this last week is due to the fact that, according to the new Health report, the data prior to May 11 "came from information reported in an aggregated, less precise way, with the risk of duplicates and lack of variables of interest ".

This

adjustment with a new methodology

has caused the Government to incorporate into the analysis 5,105 cases and 1,326 deaths diagnosed before May 11.

Thus,

the real number of deaths in the last day is 297 and the number of infections, 19,937.

Regarding the cumulative incidence of the coronavirus, this Wednesday it stood at

528 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days

when the indicator stood at 527 on Tuesday. Again, more than half of the autonomous communities and cities exceed the threshold of the 500 cases.

Melilla, Navarra and Aragon are even over a thousand.

The official data also reflect the increase in hospital pressure, which is summarized in one piece of data:

29.11% of ICU beds throughout Spain are already occupied by Covid-19 patients.

But not only Ceuta and Melilla clearly exceed that threshold.

In other communities such as La Rioja, Aragón, Navarra, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Madrid and Asturias, the occupancy is around or above 40% of beds in Intensive Care.
