Many questions and uncertainties remain in the aftermath of the attack on an Orthodox priest in Lyon.

This Sunday, the custody of the suspect arrested on Saturday evening, a few hours after the facts, was lifted, we learned from the Lyon prosecutor's office.

"The doctor who examined the person concerned indeed judged that his state of health was not compatible with a measure of custody and that he was under duress hospitalization," said the prosecution.

For the time being, in the state of the investigations conducted by the investigators, there is nothing to implicate him in the commission of the facts, added the same source in a statement.

Research continues

On Saturday, around 4 p.m., Nikolaos Kakavelakis, 52, had been targeted by two shots, while closing the door of the Orthodox church located in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon.

He was injured in the liver and touching the tip, and was hospitalized in critical condition.

In the early evening, the prosecution had indicated that a "suspect" who may correspond to the description given by the first witnesses "had been taken into police custody.

The man arrested was not in possession of the weapon used in the attack on the priest, namely a sawed-off shotgun, during his arrest.

After the lifting of his police custody, the Lyon public prosecutor's office indicated this Sunday at

that the investigations entrusted to the DIPJ of Lyon "are actively continuing" in search of other possible suspects.
