  • The incidence rate in the region increased further to reach 290 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Hospitals have started to deprogram non-urgent operations, while the arms are lacking, especially in nursing homes.

As in the rest of France, the health situation linked to the coronavirus continues to deteriorate in the Pays-de-la-Loire.

According to figures released Friday evening by the Regional Health Agency, the incidence rate has further increased to more than 290 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Bad indicators, however lower than the national average, which force authorities and hospitals to reorganize themselves to face this second wave.

"A certain number of establishments must transform their traditional care units into Covid care," indicates Jean-Jacques Coiplet, director of the ARS.

We therefore started to deprogram non-emergency operations, while ensuring the protection of people with chronic diseases or cancer.

"

In recent days, private clinics have also been mobilized to expand the reception capacity in intensive care in all the Pays-de-la-Loire.

"By November 15 and to be in phase with the projections, the goal is to reach a capacity of 350 to 360 beds, including 200 for Covid patients," calculates Jean-Jacques Coiplet.

We are now at 212, including 94 for the Covid.

At the peak of the first wave, 180 places were needed.

"Find arms very quickly"

While reports and clusters are progressing in nursing homes in the region (currently 25), the ARS must also face a problem of human resources, especially in these establishments.

"We will have to find arms very quickly," we tell the human resources unit bluntly.

The staff are tired, which creates absenteeism, which is further reinforced by the Covid.

For example, we have received 16 cases among employees of one and the same nursing home!

This creates great concern among directors of establishments.

"

The ARS ensures that several levers are in operation, in particular calls for recruitment and volunteers on the Internet and via Pôle Emploi.

“We also have health students, especially nurses, who are there to strengthen the lines.
