Two men trick an Indian doctor into buying "Aladdin's lamp" for $ 200,000

Indian police arrested two men in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh after deceiving a doctor and deceiving him of having Aladdin's magic lamp, which he promised would bring him wealth and health, which tempted him to buy him from them.

The two men wanted a price for the lamp in excess of $ 200,000, but settled with the doctor on a down payment of $ 41,500.

As part of the hoax, the gang pretended to conjure up souls from the lamp in line with the legendary stories associated with it, the BBC quoted Indian media outlets.

The doctor reportedly filed a complaint with the police that he met the two men when he began treating a woman who told him she was their mother over the course of a month.

He added, "Gradually they started telling me about the lamp and started brainwashing."

He also said that "during one of the visits, Aladdin did appear in front of me," and only later did he realize that he was one of the accused, wearing the legendary character's uniform.

In the end, the two men offered him the lamp, promising him that it would "bring wealth, health and good luck" in exchange for 15 million Indian rupees ($ 201,000), but they agreed to a down payment of 310,000 rupees ($ 41,584).

Police said the same two men were suspected of deceiving other families in similar ways.

"Two were arrested and there is a woman on the run," she added.
