The screenwriter and director of "Night of the Living Dead", George Romero, set the template for many modern zombies.

In the film, the zombie is portrayed as a heavy-footed and slow dying with the instinct to kill and eat people.

According to George Romero, a zombie could be killed with the help of firearms or a burning torch.
