The prayer hall was opened in the Algiers Mosque, the third largest mosque in the world and the largest in Africa, on the occasion of the celebration of the Prophet's birthday, and the opening was supposed to be officially under the supervision of the President, Abdel Majid Tebboune.


On the evening of yesterday, the mosque’s prayer hall was opened, and it can receive 120,000 worshipers.

The Mosque of Algeria extends over an area of ​​27.75 square hectares, and is thus the third in the world in terms of area, after the Prophet's Mosque and the Grand Mosque in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

As for its minaret, which can be seen from all over the capital, it is the highest in the world, with a height of 267 meters, or 43 floors, and can be accessed by elevators that provide panoramic views of the Algerian capital.

The interior of the mosque is decorated with Andalusian character, with no less than six kilometers of calligraphy panels, on marble, alabaster and wood, and the carpets are in turquoise blue with floral motifs, according to a traditional Algerian character.

During his recent visit to the mosque, the President, Abdul Majeed Tebboune, asked the Minister of Religious Affairs to form a "high-level scholarly body" to oversee the religious edifice.

The Algiers Mosque includes, in addition to the prayer hall, 12 buildings, including a library containing one million books, a lecture hall, a museum of Islamic art and history, and a center for research on the history of Algeria.
