On the morning of April 15, 1931, Alfonso XIII fled Spain. A long exile was then beginning that took the monarch and his family from hotel to hotel across Europe. Coinciding with the publication of the biography of two of his daughters, Baby and Crista, we visit some of the European accommodations where they landed after leaving their wealthy life in the palace, from Le Meurice in Paris to Claridges in London. Many are still open and have not lost an iota of sophistication almost a century later.
