399 votes to 27. The deputies on Thursday gave broad support to the government and to the reconfinement decided by the executive in the face of the second wave of Covid-19.

Prime Minister Jean Castex, supported by all members of the majority, expressed his "gratitude for this clear and unambiguous vote which is up to the serious circumstances that our country is going through".

In spite of the criticisms aimed at the executive, during the debate on the health crisis, in the opposition, the Socialist group chose to vote in favor of the reconfinement, to “protect the French”.

But it is a "yes of anger" against "the lack of preparation" of the government, underlined Valérie Rabault.

LR deputies absent for the vote

The LR group decided not to take part in the vote due to the context of the knife attack in Nice.

It is "not sure that a vote which would show divisions in the national representation is appropriate (...) Our group will not take part in the vote, in conscience and in responsibility so as not to add divisions in our country", had indicated the head of right-wing deputies Damien Abad.

LR deputies, absent for the vote, are therefore not counted as abstentions, numbering 7.

Among the Communists, 8 voted for and 6 against.

The Insoumis all voted against.

IDUs, center right, were divided between for and a few abstentions.

All members of the majority gave their support to the government.

"Massive use" of teleworking

During the debates, the Prime Minister announced the compulsory mask from 6 years old, in primary school.

He also called for a “massive use” of teleworking, “five days out of five” when possible.

At the end of the discussions, Jean Castex lamented that some deputies "have decided not to take part in the vote" on the government's containment plan.

"It is certainly their most absolute right, but when the house of France is in difficulty, we must take our responsibilities, we do not look away," he said.

This vote under article 50-1 of the Constitution is not binding.
