[Explanation] In recent years, the problem of myopia in children and adolescents has received widespread attention from society.

A few days ago, the National Health Commission released the "Children and Adolescents Prevention and Control Myopia Manual", which tailored different versions of the personalized "Myopia Prevention and Control Manual" for kindergarten, elementary and middle school students.

It also pointed out that primary school has become a high incidence of myopia.

Many students and parents are deeply impressed by the trend of myopia in children and adolescents in China in recent years.

  [Concurrent] Sun, fourth grade student

I have a little bit of astigmatism and some myopia. When I had a vision check in kindergarten, the teacher told the parents about this situation.

There are 15 people in our class who wear glasses, and 3 people are (prepared) to wear glasses.

  [Concurrent] Liu, sixth grade student

This myopia was detected a year ago.

Because I was on the school basketball team, I had to take off my glasses every time I started playing basketball, and then I couldn’t see clearly. It was inconvenient.

(Child) This year (2020) is nine years old. In the class, I understand that about a quarter of them are now nearsighted.

Parents of our age are basically short-sighted during school, starting from junior high school, elementary school rarely.

Myopia is also very common in primary schools now.

[Concurrent] Parents of Ms. Jiao Primary School Students

I am a parent of the second grade.

Now I think my myopia is getting younger and younger, and some may even start myopia in kindergarten.

Very early myopia actually affects their later life. If they wear glasses at such a young age, their studies and life, including sports and play, are actually greatly affected.

[Explanation] Most parents said that once they find that their children have myopia, they will actively intervene in various ways.

If you are nearsighted, you must wear glasses to prevent further aggravation.

The other is that you might give him a massage at night, and intervene again with this auxiliary method.

Minimize the time spent on electronic products, and spend more time outdoors in natural light.

Do not use your eyes for a long time. For example, you must rest once for forty minutes, or you must rest once for 20 minutes.

[Explanation] Yang Liu, deputy director and chief physician of the Department of Ophthalmology of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, said that in recent years, the incidence of myopia in children and adolescents in China has been higher and lower.

In addition to genetic factors, increased school pressure and increased use of electronic products are the main reasons.

[Concurrent] Yang Liu, Deputy Chief Physician, Department of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tiantan Hospital

The reason I think the main reason is that children have relatively heavy schoolwork, and then that there are fewer outdoor activities, especially this year (2020) to catch up with the epidemic, so if you use online lessons to learn, more electronic products are used.

After the epidemic, the number of students seeing myopia in the outpatient department of the hospital increased significantly, much more than this time in previous years.

[Explanation] Experts said that currently parents generally pay attention to the treatment of myopia in children and adolescents, but active prevention is equally important. Parents should regularly take their children to regular medical institutions to check their eyesight, and move the threshold for myopia prevention and control forward.

Disease prevention is now more important than treatment, especially for children, such as mobile phones and iPads. The first thing to do is to reduce the use of these things.

Another is to increase children's outdoor activities. Outdoor activities can prevent and treat myopia, which is very positive.

It is very necessary to go to the hospital for regular checkups. You must go to the hospital every winter and summer vacation to check the eyesight of the patients and a disease of the eyes, to see if there is a tendency to develop myopia, and to intervene early.

[Explanation] Experts also explained the misunderstandings such as "mydriatic pupil is bad for children's eyes", "nearsightedness, do myopia surgery when you grow up", and so on.

[Concurrent] Yang Liu, Deputy Chief Physician, Department of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tiantan Hospital

When a child comes to optometry, the pupil must first be dilated, so that the calculated degree is accurate.

If it is pseudomyopia, it can be adjusted by resting and relaxing the eyes. If it is true myopia, glasses must be worn.

The doctor should check in advance, for example, to rule out whether he has glaucoma.

If the doctor determines that you do not have these problems, it is safe to dilate your pupils. Don't worry.

Although myopia surgery is very mature, it is an operation on a normal eye after all.

Our country stipulates that he is over 18 years old, and his vision is stable within two years, and the doctor can perform surgery only after checking.

If the rapid development of myopia is not controlled, then high myopia is not suitable for this kind of surgery.

[Explanation] Experts believe that prevention and control of myopia in children and adolescents is the common responsibility of all sectors of society.

In the future, the government, medical institutions, schools, and families should jointly build an eye health prevention and control system, cultivate good eye habits for children and adolescents, and create a healthy eye environment.
