  • A post seen nearly 400,000 times on Facebook warns of a rush in supermarkets in the Hérault before the announcement of the new confinement.

  • In fact, the photo, published in

    Le Parisien

, dates from March 4 and concerns a sign in Athis-Mons (Essonne).

  • The testimony presented in the publication is a condensed version of two quotes taken from the same press article.

The announcement of the re-containment had not yet been made that an alarmist post was already circulating on Facebook showing shelves out of stock.

A publication thus indicated, Wednesday, October 28 at the beginning of the afternoon, that the "shelves of certain brands [were] out of stock" in the Hérault.

A photo of an empty shelf illustrates this publication, seen nearly 400,000 times.

The Facebook post on October 28 referred to empty supermarket shelves.

A testimony, presented as that of an employee of a System U sign, accompanies the cliché: “In barely half a day we have ten pallets of flour that have left.

The disturbing individualism on the part of clients is just nuts.

People do not understand that it is by rushing into stocks stupidly that we get to a shortage.

It's ridiculous and it shows how individualistic people are.

The post then relays a call for calm from the Federation of shops and distribution.

FAKE OFF

Several elements of this publication are erroneous, and actually taken from an article published before the first containment.

The photo dates, in fact, March 4, 2020. A simple reverse search in Google Image can find the trace on the site of the

Parisian

.

It had been published as part of an article devoted to a Carrefour store in Athis-Mons, in Essonne, which had been taken by storm for fear of possible confinement in early March.

It will also be noted that the photo published on Facebook has been cropped.

The testimony of the supposed employee of a System U brand mixes, almost word for word, two quotes from this article, that of Adel, a client, and Ali, an employee.

In the article, Adel says: “It's just crazy, people don't understand that it's by rushing into stocks stupidly that you get to a shortage.

It's ridiculous and it shows how individualistic people are, it's every man for himself and that's it.

"

In addition, it is Ali, one of the employees of the store, who explains to the

Parisian

: “In barely a day we have ten pallets of pasta which have left, it's incredible.

Pasta has apparently been replaced with flour in the post.

A call not to rush into the races very real

The call for calm and the measure of the Federation of Commerce and Distribution (FCD) is, on the other hand, very real.

Jacques Creyssel, general delegate of the FCD, spoke on BFMTV, Wednesday October 28, to remind that there are stocks available.

He wants everyone to demonstrate "civic and reasonable behavior".

“In March, no one ran out of products.

When there were difficulties, they were really very specific difficulties, ”he explains.

@JacquesCreyssel calls for everyone to demonstrate "civic and reasonable behavior": "In March, no one ran out of products."

"We have a little bit of experience, we saw what preceded the confinement of March, it taught us a number of things as well as upstream, to industrialists, also explained to AFP Thierry Desouches, spokesperson for Système U. Since the release of confinement, we have stocks slightly higher than they normally are of products that are said to be "psychological", such as pasta or canned vegetables.
