The situation is tense between French President Emmanuel Macron and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

This since Macron has repeatedly marked against radical Islamists in recent weeks.

Among other things, Macron has defended the use of Muhammad caricatures after the brutal beheading of teacher Samuel Paty, saying that Islam is a religion in crisis and that "Islamists want our future".

Erdogan, in turn, has said that Macron needs "a psychic test".

Caricature of Erdogan

On Wednesday, the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo published a caricature of the Turkish president.

In the picture, Erdogan is sitting sunk in an armchair wearing a t-shirt and underpants.

With one hand he lifts a woman's dress so that she exposes her back while Erdogan exclaims "Ohh the prophet".

"Spread racism"

The drawing has provoked reactions in Erdogan's staff, reports Reuters.

"We strongly condemn the publication in the French magazine which does not respect any faith, holiness or values.

They are just showing their own vulgarity, "President Ibrahim Kalin wrote on Twitter.

Erdogan's communications manager Fahrettin Altun has also reacted, saying the caricature is racist.

Macron's anti-Muslim agenda is bearing fruit!

We condemn this disgusting effort to spread cultural racism and hatred ", tweets Altun.
