The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care exceeded the 3,000 mark on Wednesday.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care exceeded the 3,000 mark on Wednesday, a level unprecedented since early May, according to the latest official figures.

372 new admissions in sheave (or intensive care) have been recorded since Tuesday, according to the database of Public Health France.

Taking into account discharges, the number of Covid-19 patients currently in intensive care has increased by 127 in the past 24 hours, bringing their total to 3,036.

More than half of intensive care beds occupied by coronavirus patients 

Since Tuesday, more than half of the current capacity of resuscitation services - which do not only accommodate Covid patients - has been occupied by Covid-19 patients.

France has some 5,800 beds in total, a level that the public authorities intend to increase in the coming days.

More broadly, 2,821 additional people have been hospitalized for Covid-19 since Tuesday.

French hospitals now accommodate more than 20,000 people admitted due to the coronavirus (20,184 to be precise).
