The comic book is no longer just about talking ducks and men in jerseys and therefore it also attracts more readers, says Fredrik Strömberg who is a journalist, teacher and author with comics as a special area.

- The fact that comics have been developed and added is because more female cartoonists have emerged.

It has meant that we have gone from writing for and with boys to the fact that today it is almost the opposite, he says.

Last year, circulation increased by a total of 15 percent compared with the previous year.

Egmont, which is one of Sweden's largest comic book publishers, has increased its circulation by 50 percent since 2017.

"Images are equal or more complicated to read than text"

Fredrik Strömberg believes that the comic book has not become even more popular in part is an older tradition and view of literature, where it is nicer to read prose text than pictures.

-It's like pictures are just something simplified and childish that you have to grow from.

The older educators often miss that you also read pictures at least as much as the text.

It is equal or more complicated reading than text.
