The International Photography Festival "Xposure", organized by the Sharjah Government Media Office, has revealed the names of the winners of the Timothy Allen Photography Grant, which targets photographers specializing in travel and documentary photography.

Global photographer Timothy Allen announced, during a live broadcast on the Facebook platform, the names of the winners, highlighting the criteria for selecting the winners based on, as this year's grant cycle witnessed the participation of 1600 works from different countries of the world.

Allen emphasized that the grant winners were distinguished by the diversity of topics and reliance on the story and the story behind the pictures, indicating that the awarding of the winners will take place during the fifth session of the festival, which will be held from February 10-13 at the Sharjah Expo Center.

Projects

The list of winners included: the Czech Mikhal Novotny, the winner for his project "Aspects of Faith", which explores the manifestations of faith in different religions around the world, and the British Kiran Ridley for his extensive photo coverage of the political crisis, titled "Hong Kong protests calling for democracy ... the revolution of our time." And Turkish F Delek Uyar for the project “In the Center for Combating the Coronavirus Epidemic Covid-19”, which documents the work of frontline cadres in the intensive care department of a hospital.

The Iranian project "Life among Garbage" led Atta Ranbar Zaidanlu to win the award, as he was able through it to address the lives of the poor who earn their livelihood from garbage collection and transporting it with high capacity for visual narration.

The victory of the Russian Natalia Gorshkova came in exchange for her project "Willpower", in which she addressed the lives of people who face disability challenges and their ability to create and conquer circumstances.

Exceptional talents

Global photographer Timothy Allen said: “I am proud that I have the opportunity to see and evaluate many creative works that have been transmitted by photographers from around the world.

The selection of this year highlighted exceptional talents from several countries, as I sensed that originality and a passion for visual storytelling were the main features in the work of the winners of this round of the grant.

He added: “F Delek Uyar was able to tell us the suffering that accompanied the spread of the Coronavirus through her shot of the Coronavirus Control Center in Turkey.

On the other hand, Natalia Gorshkova was able to tell us the story of perseverance and determination that was evident in the Russian wheelchair basketball team for the disabled, while the works of Atta Rangbar Zidanloo showed his ability to use visual language and his great passion for the art of photography through his distinctive shots, which strengthened my curiosity to get to know all Winners in person in next February on the land of Sharjah ».

10 days in Sharjah

The grant winners will receive a 10-day travel and residency program in Sharjah, which includes attending the fifth edition of the International Photography Festival "Exposure" 2021, as they will participate in an intensive workshop with international photographer Timothy Allen and have several opportunities, including discussing their work and reviewing their projects in the field of photography. , And receive individual training, and training in "location photography" techniques.

In addition to the opportunity to display their work to the public for four days in the main hall of the festival, which is the first and largest event of its kind in the field of photography in the region.
